Coronavirus: Death toll in China rises to 563

Death toll in China has risen to 563 as 73 people died on Wednesday, the highest one-day deaths so far. Meanwhile, the total confirmed cases has surged to 28,018. On Wednesday, 73 people died due to coronavirus and the new cases were reported 3,694, country’s National Health Commission announced. Meanwhile, the commission stated that 563 people had died due to coronavirus so far and 28,018 confirmed cases had been reported. Among those deceased, 70 people died in Hubei Province and its provincial Wuhan, the epicentre of coronavirus. The Commission also added that Tianjin, Heilongjiang and Guizhou provinces have registered one death each. Among new 5,328 new suspected cases, 2,987 cases were reported from Hubei. 640 patients were reported seriously ill while 3,859 remained in severe condition on Wednesday, the commission stated. Meanwhile, around 2.82 lakh close contacts of the patients have been traced while over 1.86 lakh others are under observation. 20 confirmed cases were reported from Hong Kong, 10 in Macao and 11 in Taiwan, by the end of Wednesday. On Sunday, Hong Kong announced its first casualty due to coronavirus. China’s Ministry of Science and Technology stated that a batch of Remdesivir, an antiviral drug, is expected to arrive n China soon. Remdesivir would be put into a clinical trials to test its efficiency on coronavirus. It has been used to cure the Ebola infections. All the three patients have a travel history to China. Also, Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued a fresh travel advisory asking people to avoid visiting China. The Ministry said in a statement that the travel advisory informs the public to refrain from travel to China and anyone with the travel history in China since January 15, 2020 could be examined. Recently, a suspected case of coronavirus was reported from Mohali which was later found negative. Likewise, the health department put two persons from Panchkula under surveillance. They had returned from China. It was done to ensure if they have not been infected with coronavirus. Later, the results were found negative. -PTC News
