Coronavirus in India Confirmed Cases , COVID 19 Death Toll

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare addressed the media on the current situation of coronavirus in India. The Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that “Till now there have been 979 COVID-19 confirmed cases in the country, including 25 deaths. In the last 24 hours, 106 new positive cases & 6 deaths have been reported.”




He added that “Under Indian Railways, 1.25 lakh wagons transporting essential commodities, such as food grains, sugar, salt, coal, petroleum, etc, have been operated in the last 5 days.”

Meanwhile, R Ganga Ketkar, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) added that “Till today we have conducted 34,931 tests. Capacity utilization in the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) network is around 30%. We have increased some labs, 113 have been made functional and 47 private labs have been given approval.”

While asked about the number of coronavirus patients on a ventilator, the Joint Secretary stated that the data is being monitored at the state level. “High-risk cases, which include age/contact history as criteria and which are found serious are monitored,” he added.

PM Narendra Modi’s apology

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a monthly broadcast Mann Ki Baat, apologized to the nation for the taking harsh steps amid coronavirus outbreak. He said, “I apologize for taking these harsh steps which have caused difficulties in your lives, especially the poor people. I know some of you would be angry with me also. But these tough measures were needed to win this battle.”
