Coronavirus Outbreak: Indian Railways cancels all passenger trains

In the wake of coronavirus spread, Indian Railways on Sunday suspended all the passenger trains till March 31. The decision came on the day of Janta Curfew. As per the report, 341 positive cases have been reported from India with 6 deaths, one each from Delhi, Karnataka, Punjab, Bihar and two from Maharashtra. In continuation of measures taken in the wake of COVID 19, it has been decided that all passenger train services on Indian Railways including Premium trains, Mail/Express trains, Passenger trains, Suburban Trains, Kolkata Metro Rail, Konkan Railway, etc shall be cancelled till the 2400 hrs of March 31. However, a bare minimum level of services of Suburban trains and Kolkata metro rail shall continue up to 2400 hrs of March 22. Meanwhile, it added that the trains which had already commenced their journey, prior to 0400 hrs of March 22, will run-up to their destinations. Adequate arrangements shall be made for the passengers, who have commenced their journey during the travel and at their destinations. Furthermore, it added that the movement of goods trains will continue to ensure the essential supplies in various parts of the country. Also, a full refund for all cancelled trains may be taken till March 21 to make it more convenient for passengers. Adequate arrangements shall be made to facilitate a hassle-free refund to passengers affected by the train cancellations. -PTC News
