Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held a meeting with 40 elite sportspersons of the country including Indian captain Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Mary Kom via video conferencing on the ongoing situation in the country due to coronavirus pandemic. It is for the first time that the Prime Minister interacted with the sports personalities since the 21-day lockdown was announced on March 29 to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

Meanwhile, PT Usha, Pullela Gopichand, Vishwanathan Anand, Hima Das, Bajrang Punia, PV Sindhu, Rohit Sharma, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, and Cheteshwar Pujara were among the other prominent people who attended the video-conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

PM Modi during interaction with sportspersons gave the five-point mantra of ‘Sankalp, Sanyam, Sakaratmakta, Samman & Sahyog’ to tackle COVID19. PM said that sportspersons have brought glory to the nation and now have an important role to play in boosting the morale of the nation and spreading positivity.

Likewise, the sportspersons thanked PM for ensuring frontline health care workers and police personnel involved in this battle get respect they deserve for their selfless service. They talked about importance of discipline, mental strength, following fitness regimen and steps to boost immunity.

Likewise, PM Narendra Modi said in a tweet: “From sharing videos that reaffirm the importance of fitness, helping the poor and needy, emphasising on social distancing as well as contributing to efforts such as PM-CARES, our sportspersons are doing excellent towards making India free from COVID-19.”

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the people to gather together for a unique exercise on April 5 at 9 pm to show that they are together in a fight against coronavirus.

PM Modi said that on this Sunday, April 5, we will challenge the darkness of coronavirus threat together. “On April 5, at 9 pm, turn off all the lights in your houses and lights a diya, candle, torch or flashlight for 9 minutes at your doors, or balcony,” PM Modi stated.
