Coronavirus India: 50 percent of people still do not wear a mask, says health ministry
Amid the coronavirus outbreak in India, the Union Health Ministry stated that 50 percent of people still do not wear a face mask while 64 percent of the people who do wear masks, do not cover the nose. During a media briefing on Thursday, the Health Ministry's Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal said that eight states in the country have more than 1 lakh active cases, 9 states have between 50,000-1 lakh active cases and 19 states have less than 50,000 active cases. The number of districts reporting a decline in case positivity has increased from 210 in April 29-May 5 to 303 districts in May 13-19, the health ministry stated. It also stated that seven states have more than 25 percent case positivity, while 22 have more than 15 percent case positivity. Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, and Jharkhand are 10 states witnessing a decline in cases and decline in positivity in the last 3 weeks. On the other hand, Tamil Nadu, Meghalaya Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, Mizoram are showing a rise in cases in the last three weeks.
