India records highest single-day spike in new cases, deaths and recoveries in a single day

India reported the highest-ever single-day spike of 49,310 coronavirus cases and 740 deaths in the last 24 hours, as of Friday morning. Likewise, India witnessed the highest number of recoveries in a single-day. A total of 34,602 COVID patients in India were declared cured and discharged. Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus positive cases stand at 12,87,945 out of which 4,40,135 are active cases, 8,17,209 have been cured and discharged while 30,601 died due to the contagion disease, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the total number of coronavirus samples tested up to July 23 is 1,54,28,170 out of which 3,52,801 samples were tested on Thursday. Likewise, the Government of India said that no school children will participate in the Independence Day celebrations this year. An official said that while there used to be 900-1,000 invitees every year at the Red Fort, as many as 250 people will be present as the Prime Minister addresses the nation this year. The list will be prepared by the Defence Ministry.
