With 53,601 new cases and 871 deaths, India's COVID tally rises to 22,68,676

India reported a single-day spike of 53,601 cases and 871 deaths in the last 24 hours, as of Tuesday morning. A total of 47,746 COVID patients in the country were recovered in the last 24 hours. The total number of coronavirus cases in India has increased to 22,68,676 out of which 6,39,929 are active cases, 15,83,490 have been cured and discharged while 45,257 have died due to the pandemic, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Government of India stated that India, now, has 28.21 percent active cases, 69.80 percent cured and discharged while 1.99 percent deaths. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the total number of samples for coronavirus tested up to August 10 is 2,52,81,848 out of which 6,98,290 samples were tested on Monday. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a video conference with Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Punjab, Bihar, Gujarat, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, to discuss corona related situation. Day after former President Pranab Mukherjee tested positive for coronavirus, Puducherry Chief Minister, V Narayanasamy, stated that two of his ministers in the Cabinet, Kandasamy and Kamalakannan tested positive for COVID-19. Likewise, he appealed to people who moved with them to go for testing. -PTC News
