With more than 64,000 cases in last 24 hours, India's COVID tally crosses 24 lakh-mark

India reported a spike of 64,553 coronavirus cases and 1007 deaths in the last 24 hours, as of Friday morning. A total of 55,573 COVID patients in India have been declared cured and discharged in the last 24 hours. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country has increased to 24,61,191 out of which 6,61,595 are active cases, 17,51,556 have been cured and discharged while 48,040 have died due to the pandemic, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Friday. According to the India Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 2,76,94,416 samples have been tested for coronavirus up to August 13 out of which 8,48,728 samples were tested on Thursday. India is currently the third worst-affected country due to country while the US is on the top with 5,415,666 confirmed cases of coronavirus. Likewise, Brazil is the second worst-affected nation with 3,229,621 confirmed cases out of which 105,564 died due to the pandemic while 1,750,636 recovered. It needs a clearly-defined, inclusive, and equitable vaccine access strategy ensuring availability, affordability and fair distribution." -PTC News
