With 64,399 new cases and 861 deaths, India's COVID tally rises to 21,53,011

Coronavirus India Cases Today: India reported a single-day spike of 64,399 cases and 861 deaths in the last 24 hours, as of Sunday morning. Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases in India has increased to 21,53,011 out of which 6,28,747 are active cases, 14,80,885 have been cured and discharged while 43,379 have died due to the pandemic, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Sunday. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 7,19,364 samples were tested on August 8 while around 2.41 crores samples have been tested so far in the country. Meanwhile, the Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has been admitted to hospital in Mumbai after complaining of breathlessness. The actor has confirmed that he has tested negative for the novel coronavirus that he has been kept for observation in the non-COVID ward at the hospital. While coronavirus cases across the world are rising, Russia is set to register the world's first COVID-19 vaccine next week. The vaccine candidate was developed by Gamaleya Research Institute and the Russian Defence Ministry. As per the report, the vaccine will be registered on August 14.
