Coronavirus: India has 48 cases of Delta Plus variant, says Centre
Amid the second wave of coronavirus in India, the Central government on Friday stated that India has so far reported 48 cases of Delta Plus variant.
As of today, there are 48 cases of Delta Plus variant in India, said Dr. SK Singh, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Director.

He informed that 8 states were important where more than 50 percent of the variant of concern (Delta variant) were found. These are Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Telangana, and West Bengal, he added.

Meanwhile, ICMR DG, Dr. Balram Bhargava, stated that the Ministry of Health has given the guideline that vaccines can be given to pregnant women. "Vaccination is useful in pregnant women and it should be given," he added.
He further said that Covidshield and Covaxin work against the variants of SARS CoV 2 — alpha, beta, gama, and as well as delta.
Delta Plus is present in 12 countries while 48 cases have been identified in India but more importantly, they have been very localised, he added.
Even as he said that there's only one country that's giving vaccines to children at the moment. Whether very small children will ever need vaccines, is still a question. Till such time, we've more data on vaccination of children, we won't be in a position to vaccinate children at large, he said.
