Coronavirus: India records highest-ever COVID-19 recoveries in 24 hours

Coronavirus India Updates: India on Tuesday recorded the highest-ever recoveries taking the total tally to 2,15,96,512 in the country. While giving coronavirus updates, the Union Health Ministry stated that India on Tuesday reported 2,63,533 new COVID-19 cases, 4,22,436 discharges, and 4,329 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of coronavirus cases has increased to 2,52,28,996 while total discharges have reached 2,15,96,512. The death toll in the country has increased to 2,78,719 and the active cases stand at 33,53,765. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 31,82,92,881 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to May 17, 2021. Of these, 18,69,223 samples were tested on Monday. Meanwhile, the ICMR has stated that the use of convalescent plasma for treating COVID-19 patients has been dropped from Clinical Management Guidelines. On Monday, PM Modi thanked the medical fraternity for an exemplary fight in extraordinary circumstances of the second COVID wave. Doctors may need to put in extra effort towards spreading awareness about mucormycosis, he said.
