Coronavirus Outbreak: Noida orders landlords not to charge rents from tenants

Amid a continued nationwide lockdown in the wake of coronavirus spread, the migrant and daily wage workers are facing a crisis. Therefore, the Gautam Buddh Nagar administration has directed the landlords not to charge rent if their tenants happen to be a low-wage labourer. The District Magistrate (DM) BN Singh on Saturday issued an order directing that the rent cannot be charged to such persons in the wake of a massive migration of such people from the urban centres. The authority evoked the Uttar Pradesh Disaster Management Act, 2015, to issue the order. The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration stated that it came to their notice that the daily wagers who are employed in the manufacturing and distribution of essential services and goods are being forced to pay rents. This forced them to vacate their homes in the national capital region and head back to their native villages. The novel coronavirus, which has been declared as a global pandemic by the World Health Organisation, has claimed over 28,376 lives across the world. Meanwhile, 617,063 cases have been reported from across the world out of which 137,336 patients have been recovered. -PTC News
