Centre allows unrestricted inter-State and intra-State movement

The Central Government on Saturday extended the nationwide lockdown for the containment zones till June 30. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued guidelines that will come into the effect from June 1. Meanwhile, there will be no restriction on the inter-State and intra-State movement of persons, no separate approvals or e-passes are required in this regard. In case, the states and UTs wish to regulate such movement, they need to give wide publicity in advance. Likewise, the Centre has stated that the States and UTs cannot dilute the restrictions imposed by the Ministry of Home Affairs with regards to lockdown. In a letter written to the Chief Secretaries of the states and UTs, the Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said that, “I would like to reiterate again that States/Union Territories cannot dilute restrictions imposed vide the aforesaid guidelines issued by MHA. States/UTs based on their assessment of situation, may prohibit certain activities in area outside containment zones, or impose such restrictions as deemed necessary.” Likewise, he urged the Chief Secretaries of the States and UTs to ensure the compliance of new guidelines and direct all the concerned authorities for their strict implementation. He said that the states and UTs should hold consultations at the institutional level with parents and other stakeholders.
