As the Punjab Government ordered lockdown-like restrictions following the rapid surge in coronavirus cases, the Punjab Police fanned out in the field enforcing the newly announced restrictions, including night curfew timings and limits on gatherings in public places. Punjab CM had on Monday, clamped down with stricter curbs including the extension of night curfew timings by one hour (8 pm to 5 am), closure of all bars, cinema halls, gyms, spas, coaching centers, sports complexes, with restaurants and hotels to be opened only for takeaway and home delivery from Monday to Saturday. He also announced a limit on the gathering as 20 persons would be allowed in weddings and cremations in Punjab. The CM had directed the Punjab Police to ensure strict enforcement of the COVID restrictions. DGP Punjab Dinkar Gupta said that the joint teams of Punjab Police have booked around 189 owners of Marriage Palaces, Malls, Hotels, Restaurants, etc for flouting the night curfew timings and gathering limits since April 18, 2021. Meanwhile, the Punjab Police persuaded over 20,241 Face Mask violators to undergo RT-PCR testing and challaned as many as 2,199 people found without face masks during the last 24 hours.
