Coronavirus update: Active cases in India lowest in 9 months; 13,091 fresh infections

Coronavirus update: India reported 13,091 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the country's total tally of cases to 3,44,01,670. The active cases have declined to 1,38,556, the lowest in 266 days, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday. As per the latest update, the death toll due to coronavirus has climbed to 4,62,189 with 340 fresh fatalities.

The active Covid-19 cases comprise 0.40 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national recovery rate was recorded at 98.25 per cent, the highest since March 2020, the ministry said. A decrease of 1,127 cases has been recorded in the active Covid caseload in a span of 24 hours. The fresh fatalities include 259 from Kerala and 17 from Maharashtra. Also read |

Meanwhile, the Centre has provided 1,20,08,58,170 vaccine doses to states and Union Territories so far, through free of cost channel, and through the direct state procurement category, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

According to an official release, 16,74,03,871 balance and unutilised Covid-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs to be administered.
