Covid strain in India: The total number of people infected with the new mutant UK strain of coronavirus in India has increased to 109, the Ministry of health and family welfare said on Thursday. As per the report, the total number of people diagnosed with new mutant UK strain of coronavirus as of Wednesday was at 102. As of January 11, the number of people affected by UK strain was 96. The health ministry stated that genome sequencing on other specimens was underway adding that the situation was under scanners while regular advice was being provided to the states for enhanced surveillance, containment, testing and dispatch of samples to INSACOG (Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium) labs. Earlier, the ministry had stated that people testing positive for contagious strain were being kept in single-room isolation at designated healthcare facilities. Besides Covid strain in India, it has been found in Denmark, the Netherlands, Australia, Italy, Sweden, France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Japan, Lebanon and Singapore.
