Delhi Court issues notice to CBI in MCI bribery case : A notice has been issued to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by a Delhi court seeking its reply till January 22 in connection with the alleged Medical Council of India bribery case.

It is noticeable that the apex court turned down a petition by the Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Judicial Reforms in the same case. The top court did not find any merit in the petition filed by CJAR. Senior lawyer of Supreme Court, Kamini Jaiswal, filed a similar petition which was also dismissed by the apex court in the same case.Delhi Court issues notice to CBI in MCI bribery caseThe case pertains to the medical college bribery scam against I M Quddusi, retired Orissa High Court judge, who was arrested along with a middleman Vishwanath Agarwala and B.P. Yadav of the Prasad Education Trust, under the Prevention of Corruption Act by the CBI.

Quddusi allegedly used his influence to help the Uttar Pradesh-based Prasad Education Trust in "settling" a matter involving their plea to set up medical colleges. The Trust owned one of the 46 medical colleges barred by the Central government from admitting students.

The accused were subsequently granted bail, but the same was not challenged by the CBI. The CJAR filed a Public Interest Litigation in the Supreme Court seeking the constitution of a SIT to investigate the allegations, with a retired judge monitoring the case. - PTC News
