Delhi, Kolkata to witness deadly heat waves soon: Report

Delhi, Kolkata to witness deadly heat waves soon: Report The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), an international consortium convened by the United Nations, released a major report on climate change in South Korea on Monday. The report mentioned that India could face an annual threat of deadly heat waves if the world gets warmer by 2 degrees Celsius over pre-industrial levels. India is one of the largest carbon-emitting nations and is expected to be a key player in the global event. According to a report by an US-based scientific body, China tops the total CO2 emissions from fuel combustion at 9040.74 million metric tonnes, the USA next with 4997.50 million metric tonnes and India next with 2066.0 million metric tonnes. As per this report from 2015, India's per capita carbon dioxide emissions from fuel combustions at 1.58 metric tonnes is pretty low as compared to China's 6.59 metric tonnes and the US with 15.54 metric tonnes. Reportedly, the temperature rise in Indian states in last 150 years includes Delhi by 1C, Mumbai 0.7C, Kolkata 1.2C, Chennai 0.6C. The scientists mentioned that rapid actions are needed to be taken in order to curb the global warming menace. The report also warns about rising temperatures on account of global warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius and it also mentioned that global temperatures could breach the 1.5C mark as early as 2030. -PTC News
