Don’t use national flag made of plastic, follow code of paper flags: Govt

Don’t use national flag made of plastic on Republic Day, follow code: Govt. Ahead of Republic Day, the Centre issued an advisory to states and Union Territories (UTs), asking them to ensure that everybody complied with the “Flag Code of India, 2002”. The move came as the centre urges the public to not use plastic flags on Republic Day. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said it had been brought to its notice that during important events, plastic flags were used in place of paper flags. “Since plastic flags are not biodegradable, these do not get decomposed for a long time. Ensuring appropriate disposal of the national flag made of plastic, commensurate with the dignity of the flag, is a practical problem,” the advisory said. Don’t use national flag made of plastic on Republic Day, follow code: Govt As per the advisory, on important national, cultural and sports events, flags made of paper alone are to be used. At the same time it said, the flags are not to be discarded or thrown on the ground after the event concludes. “There is universal affection and respect for and loyalty to the national flag. Yet, a perceptible lack of awareness is often noticed in regard to laws, practices and conventions that apply to display of the flag.” -PTC News
