Due to non-payment of property tax, 7 properties sealed in Mohali
Mohali Municipal Corporation today sealed seven commercial properties for non-payment of property tax. The sealed properties included two showrooms, one at Phase 3B2 and the other at Phase II. The rest of the sealed properties are booths in Phase II. The defaulters owe the MC property tax worth Rs 5 lakh, said MC officer NS Kalsi. “The owner of the showroom at Phase 3B2 has to pay Rs 2 lakh as property tax to the department,” said Kalsi. The Aam Aadmi Party candidate had opened his election office in the showroom during the Punjab Assembly elections early this year. “The election office had been closed four-five months ago,” said the AAP leader, Darshan Singh Dhaliwal. According to the officials, the department had to recover approximately Rs 5 crore as property tax in the town. The MC has collected about Rs 8 crore as property tax from nearly 11,000 owners in the past few months, said the officials.
