Dussehra 2019: 300 bouncers to guard India’s tallest Ravana effigy in Chandigarh

At least 300 bouncers will guard the country’s tallest Ravana effigy in Chandigarh. It took 12 hours to make the 221-ft high Ravana effigy in Dhanas. The 7,000 kg, the water-proof structure is all set to be burnt on Dussehra. The effigy was erected using cranes in a night-long effort which started at 7 pm on Wednesday. It was finally up for display at 7 am on Thursday. A total of 30 workers will be deployed to guard it. Tejinder Chauhan, part of the team that made the effigy said, “On Dussehra, 300 bouncers will guard the effigy. We have kept a space of 250ft vacant on each side.” The effigy weighs 5,000 kg. The shoe itself is 100 kg and the effigy stands 40ft high. Its crown is 50ft high and weighs 3,500kg. The face, which is made of fiberglass, weighs 300kg and is 20ft high. It cost Rs 4 lakh. Around 3,000 meters of cloth and 1,000 kg bamboo were made to build it. Chauhan initially refused to make the Ravana effigy this year as he was short of funds. When Shiv Parvati Seva Dal volunteered to finance the operation, he agreed to make the effigy. Last year, he made a 210 ft tall effigy for Panchkula. -PTC News
