Early arrival! Monsoon hits Kerala, puts sweltering heatwave to rest
Monsoon has arrived! The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Tuesday that the Southwest Monsoon has hit Kerala, three days ahead of the schedule as the Southwest Monsoon officially arrives in the country on June 1.
As per the IMD forecast, India will experience ‘normal’ rainfall this season.
All necessary parameters were met for the announcement of the onset of the Monsoon over Kerala, said Mritunjay Mohapatra, Additional Director General, IMD.
Last month, the IMD had said that the country is expected to witness a normal Monsoon this year.
The Monsoon rains in 2018 will be 97 per cent of long period average (LPA), which are considered normal, IMD Director General K G Ramesh had said. He said there was a "very less probability" of India experiencing a deficient Monsoon this season.
