Eco Feminism in Rajasthan: For every girl child villagers plant 111 trees
Residents of Piplantri village in Rajasthan plant 111 saplings for every girl child born. It is mandatory for every family to plant 111 saplings. The family is also responsible to take care of these trees like they would their daughters.
The novel plan for eco-feminism is breeding excellent results, as the villagers having managed to grow millions of trees over the years.
In this way, the village has managed to save the girl child and increase its green cover at the same time.
In a 2013 report, the paper reported that Rs 21,000 is collected from the village residents and Rs 10,000 from the girl's father and this sum of Rs 31,000 is made into a fixed deposit for the girl, with a maturity period of 20 years.
Rajasthan’s social indices have slipped in recent times but this report does show how, when common citizens come together, great things can happen. Two major purpose of the country are solved by this plan – life to girl child and curtailing the depletion of the environment.
