EC announces the schedule of Delhi Assembly Elections 2020

The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule of the Delhi Assembly Elections 2020 on Monday. Polling is going to be held at 13,750 polling stations. Elections will be held on February 8, 2020, while counting of votes will be conducted on February 11, 2020. The legislative assembly elections will be held in Delhi to elect 70 members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. Meanwhile, the term of the current assembly elected in 2015, will expire on February 22, 2020. Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said that "The Model Code of Conduct shall be applicable for Delhi with immediate effect." He added that "New concept of absentee voters introduced, enables those voters to take part in polls who are not able to come to polling stations due to physical circumstances or unavoidable reasons. Nearly 90,000 officials will be deployed for the Delhi Assembly elections." While speaking about Delhi Elections 2020 and situation in Delhi, CEC Sunil Arora said, "We are hopeful that situation will be under control and conducive for polls. If there is an extraordinary situation, there is always an option of deferring the polls. Constitution empowers ECI to take the call." The previous assembly elections were held in February 2015.
