Fact Check: Did New York Times use Crocodile’s pic to say PM Modi cried?
After Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke down during a meeting with health officials in Varanasi, an image is making rounds on the Internet claiming to show New York Times’ international edition published on Friday, 21 May, in which a crocodile can be seen on the front page with the text, ‘India’s PM cried.’
This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke down on Friday while saying that the COVID-19 second wave has put the health system under pressure.

However, the viral image is found to be a doctored one as the New York Times had not carried any such image and information in its Friday’s international edition.

Even as advocate Prashant Bhushan also tweeted the viral image with the caption “Crocodile tears!”, however, he deleted his tweet later.

Meanwhile, several social media users started sharing the image on Twitter and Facebook. Upon using relevant keywords, there was no article by New York Times on ‘India’s PM cried'.
The viral image claimed that it was from Friday, 21 May’s NYT international edition, however, its lead image is different from the one seen in the viral photo. Also, the story on PM Modi does not feature anywhere on the front page of NYT’s official edition.
Hence, the claims regarding this image are all fake.
