After Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke down during a meeting with health officials in Varanasi, an image is making rounds on the Internet claiming to show New York Times’ international edition published on Friday, 21 May, in which a crocodile can be seen on the front page with the text, ‘India’s PM cried.’ This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke down on Friday while saying that the COVID-19 second wave has put the health system under pressure.

Upon using relevant keywords, there was no article by New York Times on ‘India’s PM cried'. After PM Narendra Modi broke down, an image is claiming to show New York Times’ published on Friday, in which crocodile can be seen with text, ‘India’s PM cried.’ The viral image claimed that it was from Friday, 21 May’s NYT international edition, however, its lead image is different from the one seen in the viral photo. Also, the story on PM Modi does not feature anywhere on the front page of NYT’s official edition. Hence, the claims regarding this image are all fake.
