FAKE NEWS issue raised in Rajya Sabha by Ravi Shankar Prasad Looking at the increase of mob lynching cases, Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad raised this issue in Rajya Sabha on Thursday. He raised the issue of FAKE NEWS and pointed at the disadvantages of digital media. Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the government is devoted to take some suitable and necessary actions to discourage the use of social media platforms as mediums of weaponization against India's strategic interest and economic stability. Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “The government is cognizant that social media platforms are being used as vehicles of weaponization against India's strategic interests, economic stability, etc, and the government is committed to taking suitable action to deter this.” According to the sources, Minister of State for Power also said that the updates announced by Whatsapp to combat fake news are not adequate. Earlier the central government have put pressure on Social media sites and messaging applications to regulate norms to handle the menace of rumors and fake news on its platform.
