Families of Mumbai fire victims to get 7 lakh ex-gratia

At least six people were reportedly killed and 28 were left injured as a massive fire broke out in a 20-storey residential building in the Tardeo area of central Mumbai on Saturday. The fire broke out at around 7.30 am on the 18th floor of the Kamla building located opposite Gandhi Hospital at Gowalia Tank. The fire was declared level 3 around 8.10 a.m., according to the fire service. 13 fire engines were dispatched to the scene. An investigation has been ordered into the matter. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also stated that "guardian minister of Mumbai Suburban Aaditya Thackeray and Mumbai City guardian minister Aslam Shaikh will look into it." Aaditya Thackeray also visited the site of the fire accident, earlier in the day. "I visited the Kamala Building fire site in Tardeo to get an on-ground update regarding the recovery operations underway. Also spoke to the residents and assured them complete assistance in this tragic hour," he informed via a tweet. "Govt will give Rs 5L compensation to families of those citizens who lost their lives in this unfortunate fire," the minister added. Meanwhile, the Centre government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of those who were killed in the massive fire at the Mumbai residential building. Compensation of Rs 50,000 for the injured was also announced. "Saddened by the building fire at Tardeo in Mumbai. Condolences to the bereaved families and prayers with the injured for the speedy recovery," read the tweet by the official account of the Prime Minister's Office.
