Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday reached the Gurez valley along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir to celebrate Diwali with the troops posted in the forward area, the Army said.
Army chief General Bipin Rawat, Northern Command chief Lt General Devraj Anbu and Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen J S Sandhu were also in Gurez accompanying the prime minister, an Army official said.

"You make it possible for 125 crore Indians to celebrate Diwali happily. Your dreams and responsibilities are the responsibility of us all. The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with you," he said during his earlier visit.
He said: “Diwali ke pawan parv par sabhi deshvasio ko hardik shubhkamnaye #HappyDiwali to everyone! (On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, greetings to the nation)."
Yesterday, several army men from Pooch sent out a heartfelt message to the entire nation. The soldiers not only celebrated the spirit of the festival battling the extreme weather but also wished the nation a happy Diwali.
“Countrymen should celebrate Diwali with utmost joy, we are deployed here and are ready to reply to the enemy,” said a soldier.
And with that, we salute their handwork and dedication to keep the country safe.
