Farmers protest: BKU leader Rakesh Tikait receives death threat; FIR registered

Amid farmers protest against farm laws 2020, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait has alleged that he received a death threat over the phone. Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered after Rakesh Tikait’s personal assistant Arjun Baliyan lodged a complaint on Saturday that an unidentified caller gave a death threat to the farmer leader. The City Superintendent of Police, Gyanendra Singh, stated that the phone number given in the complaint was under surveillance while efforts are underway to identify the caller. According to Rakesh, the call came from Bihar on Saturday evening. The police has registered an FIR at Kaushambi police station under section 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Amid farmers protest against farm laws 2020, Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait alleged that he received death threat over the phone. The farmers associated with the Bharatiya Kisan Union have joined thousands of farmers from Punjab and Haryana and are protesting at Gazipur since November 28. Amid farmers protest against farm laws 2020, Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait alleged that he received death threat over the phone. It is pertinent to mention that the farmers staging a protest at Delhi borders have decided to resume their dialogue with the Centre and proposed December 29 for the next round of meetings on four conditions. These conditions are:

  • Modalities that needs to be adopted to repeal farm laws 2020
  • Guarantee for MSP
  • Exclude farmers from penal provisions of the new ordinance on air quality management in NCR and nearby areas
  • Changes in the draft Electricity Amendment Bill 2020
