Farmers' protest: SC rejects Haryana residents' plea on Singhu border blockade

Farmers' protest: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear a plea filed by the residents of Sonipat, Haryana, facing difficulties due to the Singhu border being blocked by farmers. "There is no need for us to intervene when High Courts are well versed with the local conditions and what is happening. We should trust High Court," said a Bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud. The plea was withdrawn later. Plea withdrawn." High Court can pass effective orders balancing the right to protest and the right of other citizens, the Bench added. No power given to committee to adjudicate things, they have to report us Advocate Abhimanyu Bhandari, appearing for the petitioner, said that the case contended that Singhu border is an umbilical chord for Sonipat residents and this is hampering their right to movement. Farmers, mostly from Punjab and Haryana, have been protesting on the different borders of the national capital since November 26 last year against the three farm laws. These laws are Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020. -PTC News
