Farmers to get 80,000 tube well connections:Sukhbir

Roranwali (Sri Mukatsar Sahib), July 21 – Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal today announced that Punjab Government would immediately start distribution of more than 80,000 tubewell connections to the farmers as the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has vacated the stay on its allotment which was come to force one and half year ago.

Talking to media persons after laying foundation stone to construct the concrete streets at village Ratta Khera on Tuesday the Deputy Chief Minister hailed the decision of NGT and said it would work as a booster to the farming community which was desperate to get power connections for irrigation purposes after the Punjab has become the first power surplus state in the nation.


Mr. Badal informed that directions in this regard have been issued to officials of PSPCL to immediately gear up the process to issue the demand notices to the applicants besides ensuring the adequate supply of transformers and wires etc. The whole process would be completed within 6 months, he added.

Announcing to recruit one lakh employees in different departments from September Deputy Chief Minister said the Punjab Government had instructed all the heads of Departments, Boards and Corporations to submit details of existing vacancies till August.

Talking about the connectivity of all major cities of the state with  4/6 lanes, Mr. Badal said the tendering process was under progress and work in this regard would be initiated in next two months. He said that after achieving the power surplus status, the next target was fixed to connect all major cities with 4/6 lanes at a cost of of Rs. 20,000 crore in next 2 years.  These projects mainly includes 4/6 laning of Ludhiana-Chandigarh, Jalandhar-Chandigarh, Jalandhar-Moga and Amritsar-Bathinda.

Earlier addressing the gathering at village Bhaghu Mr. Badal said only the SAD-BJP government had launched the pro-people social security schemes like free electricity to the farming sector, shagun scheme, Atta dal, free education to girls and scholarships to meritorious students and old age pensions under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal, who always gives special attention to the issues pertaining to rural population.

The Deputy Chief Minister has laid down foundation stones of various development projects worth Rs. 99 crore to construct concrete streets in villages Badal, Mann, Channu, Bhaghu, Baanwala, Sikhanwala, Roranwali, Tarmala, Dhani Telian , Bhullarwala, Fatta Kherra, Middu Khera, Lohara, Kilianwali, Singhewala, Mithri Budhgarh and Gaggarh.
