Farmers’ Protest: Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) will stage protests outside Raj Bhawans across the country on June 26 as farmers will observe the day as “Kheti Bachao, Loktantra Bachao Diwas”.
“June 26, 1975, was a black day in Indian history as on this day the government had announced the Emergency,” said Inderjit Singh, vice president, All India Kisan Sabha, Haryana.
The current situation is not far from that as it is like an undeclared emergency,” he said, adding that the farmers’ protest against the Centre’s farm laws would complete seven months on June 26.
Farmers will observe ‘Kheti Bachao, Loktantra Bachao Diwas’ on June 26, he said. “We will protest outside Raj Bhawans across the country,” he added.
According to Samyukta Kisan Morcha, the memorandums addressed to the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, would be handed over to the state governors.
Farmers have been protesting against the farm laws for over six months. Despite 11 rounds of talks between the Centre and the farmer leaders, the deadlock remains the same.
Farmers have been protesting against the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
