Farmers Protest: As announced by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Sunday, farmers are protesting in front of Food Corporation of India (FCI) offices across the country on Monday. The day is being observed as ‘FCI Bachao Divas’.
Marking this day as FCI Bachao Divas, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha had stated that a memorandum letter would be given in the name of the Minister of Consumer Affairs.
Reportedly, the Food Corporation of India (FCI), on March 11, had sent a proposal to the government. It had recommended tighter quality controls for the procurement of wheat and paddy.
For wheat, the FCI proposed a reduction in moisture level from 14 percent to 12 percent and also a reduction in procurement of damaged grain from 4 percent to 2 percent.
On the other hand, the FCI, for paddy, proposed stricter quality control measures including the reduction of the permissible limit of foreign material in grains from 2 percent to 1 percent.
Similarly, the farmers will block the KMP expressway on April 10 for 24 hours while Baisakhi will be celebrated on the borders of Delhi on April 13.
Thousands of farmers have been protesting against the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
