In the year, the world will be witnessing summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, the focus will shift to India in October-November when it hosts top 16 nations in the U17 Women's world Cup at four different venues. It will be for the first time that such a prestigious event will be held in India. By virtue of being the host, Indian U17 women do not have to qualify to play in the tournament. They get the right to play as hosts. In 2017 India had successfully conducted the FIFA U17 Men's World Cup. Based on the success of the U17 Men's event, the FIFA was keen to award the U17 Women's event to India as well. Also Read: Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup: England drop a point to debutant China The All India Football Federation has confirmed the allotment of U17 Women's World Cup maintaining that India's bid was in accordance with the new guidelines issued by the Union Government for holding mega sporting events in the country. The new guidelines were issued last year. Of late, India has been focusing on promoting soccer in a big way. Now the AIFF will seek help of the Union Government for financial support and sponsors of the event “This will give a great boost to women’s football,” AIFF sources added. From the very beginning, India was given a go-ahead by the government, to submit its bid to host the 2020 U-17 Women’s World Cup in India.
