FIFA World Cup 2018: Mexico moves to round of 16
Mexico became the sixth team to enter the knockout round of the FIFA World Cup 2018 on Saturday.Defeating Korea 2-1, Mexico recorded its second consecutive win in group F to stay at top of the pool with maximum six points.
Sweden and Germany are other teams in the group. Germany lost to Mexico while Sweden have three points from 1-0 win against Korea.
Korea by losing both its games, first against Sweden and today against Mexico thus faces elimination.
Their only consolation was their first goal of the 2018 World Cup that went to Son Heungmin. It came in the third minute of extra time given to compensate time lost in wastage during the stipulated period.
Korea, it may be recalled, had made it to the semi-finals when it hosted the World Cup.
Mexico took the lead in the 26th when it earned a penalty, the fourteenth of the tournament. Carloas Vela made no mistake with the kick from the dreaded spot to score 11th goal from penalties in the tournament.
Earlier in the first game, too, Edem Hazard had scored first of five goals for Belgium.
Hernandez, who scored the second goal for Mexico achieved a personal milestone as it was his 50th international goal.His goal came in the 66th minute.
