Finally! Supreme Court Scraps Section 377 of IPC In a landmark judgement, the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court on Thursday scrapped IPC Section 377 which made gay sex 'unnatural'. Gay sex among consenting adults is not an offence, the Supreme Court ordered on Thursday, reading down a British-era section 377 of the penal code that penalises people for their sexual orientation. A five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra and comprising Justices Rohinton Fali Nariman, A.M. Khanwilkar, D.Y. Chadrachud and Indu Malhotra had reserved its verdict on July 17 after hearing various stakeholders, including LGBTQIA+ rights activists, over four days. In a 5-0 decision, the SC unanimously read down Section 377. Back in July, the hearing had lasted for four days. -PTC News-
