Fire engulfs 20-storey building in Mumbai, seven dead

At least seven people were reportedly killed and 15 were left injured as a massive fire broke out in a 20-storey residential building in the Tardeo area of central Mumbai on Saturday. The fire broke out at around 7.30 am on the 18th floor of the Kamla building located opposite Gandhi Hospital at Gowalia Tank. According to reports, 19 people have been rescued, so far. Four injured individuals were rushed to BYL Nair Hospital, of which two were declared brought dead. Other 15 injured were taken to Bhatia hospital, of which 12 have been admitted to the general ward and three are said to be critical and are admitted to ICU. "Doctors at the Nair Hospital said that two of them were brought dead, while the condition of the remaining two is stable and they are being treated," informed a BM official. Also Read | Punjab reports 7,792 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours "Doctors at the Bhatia Hospital said that of the 15 injured persons,12 have been admitted to the general ward, while the condition of three others is critical and they are being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU)," he further stated. The fire was declared level 3 around 8.10 a.m., according to the fire service. 13 fire engines were dispatched to the scene. The fire is being put out and is under control, reported the fire officials. DCP Saurabh Tripathi said "traffic police and local police were involved in rescue operations. The fire is under control now." Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar, who was also present at the spot, said, "fire flame is under control but smoke is huge. All people have been rescued."
