Former Delhi Chief Minister and Congress leader Sheila Dixit have passed away at the age of 81, on Saturday. Sheila Dixit was an Indian politician who was born on March 31, 1938. She was the longest Chief Minister of Delhi from 1998 to 2013. Sheila Dixit led the Congress Party for three consecutive electoral victories in Delhi.

Sheila Dixit was rushed to the Escort hospital following her health issues, where she was declared dead. Subsequently, she was sworn in as the Governor of Kerala on March 11, 2014, however, she resigned on August 25, 2014. Likewise, Sheila Dixit had been announced the Chief Ministerial candidate for the Congress party in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2047, while she later withdrew herself.

Sheila Kapoor was born in Kapurthala, Punjab into a Punjabi Khatri family. She was educated at the Convent of Jesus and Mary School in New Delhi, while she graduated with a Master of Arts degree in History from the Miranda House at the University of Delhi.

Congress shared condolence on the death of Sheila Dixit and tweeted, “We regret to hear of the passing of Smt Sheila Dikshit. Life long congresswoman and like three times CM of Delhi she transformed the face of Delhi. Our condolences to her family and friends. Hope they find strength in this time of grief.”

Likewise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his condolence on the death of Shelia Dixit. He said, “Deeply saddened by the demise of Sheila Dikshit Ji. Blessed with a warm and affable personality, she made a noteworthy contribution to Delhi’s development. Condolences to her family and supporters. Om Shanti.”

Likewise, Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “I’m devastated to hear about the passing away of Shiela Dikshit Ji, a beloved daughter of the Congress Party, with whom I shared a close personal bond. My condolences to her family & the citizens of Delhi, whom she served selflessly as a 3 term CM, in this time of great grief.”

Arvind Kejriwal on Sheila Dixit Demise said: Just now got to know about the extremely terrible news about the passing away of Mrs Sheila Dikshit ji. It is a huge loss for Delhi and her contribution will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to her family members. May her soul rest in peace.

This is indeed a sad news as the Former Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dixit have passed away at the age of 81.
