Four-Nation Hockey : India goes down to Belgium 0-2
Four-Nation Hockey : India goes down to Belgium 0-2 : Conceding a goal in each half, India went down fighting 0-2 to Belgium in the Four-Nation Invitation Hockey Tournament at Mount Maunganui in New Zealand on Thursday.
While it was first win for Belgium, it was also the first reverse for India. India had blanked Japan 6-0 in the opener while Belgium had gone fighting 4-5 to the hosts New Zealand in the first day games.
India, playing their full strength, were little shaky in the first quarter. Taking advantage of unsettled defense, Belgians took the lead in the seventh minute with a field goal. Though India had their chances, including a penalty corner in the first quarter, they could not get past the solid defense of their European opponents.
In the second half, it was once again a little opportunity that the Belgians blew to the full to consolidate the lead. Late in the second half, India tried to stage a come back and had a couple of scoring chances but fritters them away to end up with a 0-2 defeat. After a rest day, India now plays the hosts New Zealand in their third game on Saturday.
