Ghuggi resignation direct result of moral degradation of AAP: SAD

Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said the resignation of former Punjab AAP Convenor Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi from the party was a direct result of the moral degradation of AAP which according to Ghuggi had chosen to appoint a drunkard as president of the state unit after enforcing a 'no drinking' clause on him. In a statement here, SAD MP and party secretary general Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said what Punjabis had been saying since long was today said by Ghuggi who had worked closely with the new state president of AAP Bhagwant Mann. “It is also shameful that AAP Convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal while appointing Mann warned him not to drink for three months or he will be removed. Ghuggi is right in pointing out that Kejriwal could have given Mann three months to reform and cure himself of his drinking habits,” Mr Dhindsa said. He added that Ghuggi was right in pointing out that a drunkard should not have been appointed to the newly created post of state president which replaces the post of state convener. "Kejriwal should tell Punjabis why he has imposed a confirmed drunkard on them. Earlier you imposed a team of outsiders from Uttar Pradesh who were accused of selling party tickets and indulging in acts of moral turpitude. Now, when there were a number of candidates available for appointment as state party chief, you have decided to appoint a drunkard who has even been caught in an inebriated condition in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji," said Mr Dhindsa. Stating that he could also understand the frustration of AAP leader Sukhpal Khaira who has quit all party posts after Mann’s appointment as well the anguish of Kanwar Sandhu, Mr Dhindsa said the decision to appoint Mann as state president was in league with other dictatorial decisions of Arvind Kejriwal. “As Ghuggi has also pointed out, no attempt was made to arrive at a consensus on who should head the state unit by meeting party leaders or even volunteers”, he added. Mr Dhindsa said the dangerous politics played out by Arvind Kejriwal in Punjab had also been exposed by Ghuggi. He said Ghuggi had admitted that Punjabis had become afraid due to Kejriwal’s alignment with radicals and that this had also affected the fortunes of the party. He said the summary manner in which former State Convener Suchha Singh Chottepur had been thrown out of the party following an alleged sting operation had also been exposed with Ghuggi disclosing that he had not seen a tape of the alleged sting. Mr Dhindsa said Ghuggi had also highlighted now the AAP central leadership was now shying away from coming to Punjab. “This is so because the central leadership knows what is in store for them if they come to the State. Punjabis will not forgive them for their nefarious acts”, he added. — PTC News
