Glenn Maxwell IPL 2020 News: Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell likely to miss the initial matches of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 for Kings XI Punjab due to injury on his left elbow. Meanwhile, Maxwell has been ruled out of the upcoming ODIs and T20Is against South Africa starting from February 21. Maxwell has been replaced by D’Arcy Shorts in both squads.
Glenn Maxwell was bought by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 10.5 crore. He needs 6 to 8 weeks of time for the recovery. According to Cricket Australia, Maxwell will undergo surgery on Thursday in Melbourne.
Reportedly, Maxwell received the injury during the back end of Big Bash League (BBL) 2019-20 in which he led Melbourne Stars to the finals against Sydney Sixers. Stars were defeated by Sixers in the finals.
With IPL 2020 likely to commence in the last week of March, Glenn Maxwell is expected to miss one or two weeks of the upcoming season of T20 league. Notably, Maxwell made himself unavailable for IPL 2019 in a bid to focus more on his game.
National selector Trevor Hohns said that “We are disappointed to lose Maxwell as we were looking forward to welcome him back to the national side in both T20 and ODI after his break during the summer.” He added that “Unfortunately, the pain in the elbow in the latter stages of Big Bash increased over weekend. He will undergo surgery immediately to rectify the situation.” Glenn Maxwell said that he was really disappointed to withdraw from the squad.
