Good news for bankers: Government decides to shut banks on every Saturday and Sunday

The timing of bank opening and closing can change for the public soon. In the coming days, the bank may open at 9.30 instead of 10 am and they will be closed by 4pm for customers. In this case, the banks will remain open only 5 days a week, giving Saturday and Sunday a weekend to the workers and officials of the banks. But the question is, if the bank remains closed for two consecutive days every week, it will be difficult for the common working man to get his banking formalities or work done. Good news for bankers: Government decides to shut banks on every Saturday and Sunday The first round of talks between the banks' organization, the Indian Banks Association (IBA) and the Bank Organizations is considering a proposal to implement the 5 days a week working rule for bankers. There is a possibility of a final decision after the second round of talks this month. Banks employees usually work for 6 and half hours a day with 2nd and 4th Saturday offs every month. According to reports, bank associations have said that they are ready to give extra time to the customers but they want two days off every week. National Bank Employees' Association’s head, Ashwani Rana, stated that they are ready to open the banks early in the morning and close late in the evening, but keeping the working day for only 5 days. In a round that requires 24 hours of work per week, the banking sector seeks only 5 days a week.  The government strongly believes that the number of customers in the banks is constantly increasing. The government is in talking case to agreeing with the demand of the bank officials as the stock market closes on Saturdays and business related activities remain low. It can also reduce the operating costs of banks. —PTC News
