Gram Panchayat elections to be held on time, says Punjab Cabinet Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa Rural Development and Panchayats, Housing and Urban Development Minister, Punjab, on Thursday said that the Gram Panchayat elections in the state will held on time. The Panchayat elections are scheduled to be held on December 30. He also added that the Panchayat elections would be held in a free and fair manner. Meanwhile it would not be easy for state government to hold elections as the Punjab and Haryana High court on Thursday refused to give any relief to the Punjab government on rechecking of nomination papers. Punjab government had moved an application in High Court for modification in the orders. The case has been adjourned for next hearing on January 7. Timeline: December 24 : More than 200 petitioners moved to High Court against alleged arbitrary mass rejection of nomination papers for posts of Panch and Sarpanch in Punjab. December 24 : A Vacation Bench comprising of Justice Fateh Deep Singh and Justice Harsimran Singh Sethi of the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the returning officers  in state to hear all those candidates whose nomination papers were rejected. The bench directed the returning officers to review the nomination of the candidates whose papers were cancelled within two days ie. 48 hours. December 26 : Punjab government moved an application in High Court, for modification or review  in the orders. December 27 : High court refused to give any relief to the Punjab government on rechecking of nomination papers. - PTC News-
