Gujarat News: Women trainee clerks of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) were allegedly forced to stand naked in a room for a medical test at a civic body-run hospital in Surat. The incident has prompted authorities to order an investigation. Meanwhile, the Surat Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani on Friday ordered an investigation into allegations that at least 10 female trainee clerks of civic body were forced to stand naked for medical test in gynecology ward of a hospital.
The shocking incident comes to light after students of a girls college in Gujarat’s Bhuj town were forced by the hostel authorities to remove undergarments to prove that they were not menstruating. In a complaint to the commissioner on Thursday, the SMC Employees Union alleged that even unmarried women were checked by the female doctors. The incident took place in the Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) hospital on February 20.
While acting on the complaint, Banchhanidhi Pani on Friday ordered an investigation. She formed a three-member committee to investigate into the matter and submit a report in 15 days. The three-member committee is comprised of former dean of the medical college Dr. Kalpana Desai, Executive engineer Trupti Kalathia and Assistant Municipal Commissioner Gayatri Jariwala.
As per the rules, the trainee employees need to undergo a physical test to prove physical fitness for the job after completing the training period. After completing the three years of training period, some of the female trainee clerks came to SMMER hospital for medical test, which is mandatory.
