Gurdaspur Bypoll: More than 1781 polling booths, VVPAT machines to be used

The Punjab government has declared holiday today in all offices, corporations, boards and all educational institutions in the district in view of the bypoll. Voting for Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat by-poll begins; BJP’s Swaran Salaria and Congress’ Sunil Jakhar contesting. Voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) will be used at all polling stations. Votes will be counted on October 15 and the result will be declared the same day, the official said. Around 1700 polling booths have been set up. Around 30 companies of paramilitary forces and 7,000 Punjab police personnel have been deployed in the constituency, as per reports. -PTC News-
