Former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh is celebrating his 87th birthday, here on Thursday. Senior Congress Leader was born on September 26, 1932 in Gah, Punjab, British India, into a Sikh family to Gurmukh Singh and Amrit Kaur. After the Partition of India, Singh’s family moved to Amritsar, where he studied at Hindu College. He also studied in Panjab University, then in Hoshiarpur, studying Economics and got his bachelor's and master's degrees in 1952 and 1954, respectively. He began his bureaucratic career when Lalit Narayan Mishra hired him as an advisor in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. V. Narasimha Rao inducted Singh into his cabinet as Finance Minister. Also, Singh served as a Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government in 1998–2004.
