Chandigarh: Union food processing industry minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal today thanked Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh for admitting that he was yet to resign as Lok Sabha MP from Amritsar. In a statement here, Mrs Badal said it was good that Mr Amarinder Singh had owned up to the fact that he had forwarded a sham resignation letter on e mail and that he had been asked to submit the same in the correct format which he had failed to do. "It did not even take you an hour after the apex court verdict on the presidential reference more than one week back to announce you were resigning from parliament. But you have failed to submit your resignation letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker till now despite being in Delhi for quite some time during this period", Mrs Badal said. The Bathinda MP said it appeared Mr Amarinder had developed cold feet after announcing his resignation. "What else explains his inability to go to parliament and put in his papers?". She said apparently Amarinder and the Congress did not want the parliamentary poll from Amritsar to be held along with the assembly election. "What else can explain the delay on Amarinder's part to do resign despite making grandiose announcements to this effect?", she added. Ridiculing Amarinder for talking out of his hat by demanding the resignation of Akali MPs; Mrs Badal said the SAD had chosen to stay put and put in place a series of steps to protect the river waters of Punjab and had succeeded in this task by transferring the land acquired for the canal back to the farmers. "Reflect on what you did. You chose to go in for a cheap resignation drama knowing fully well that you needed to resign from Amritsar to contest the assembly elections from Patiala. Your MPs ran away from the assembly and abandoned their constituents whose rights they were supposed to protect in the State assembly. What can the people expect from you and your party?", Mrs Badal asked. Asking Amarinder to come clean on the entire sordid episode enacted by him to win cheap popularity, the Union minister asked him to submit his resignation immediately without further delay. "You better also ask all your MPs to resign from parliament so that they can also test their popularity among the people like you. Not that this will help much. You have already been branded as the aide de camp of Indira Gandhi who waited on her with a silver spade so that she could cut the very heart of Punjab and rob the State of the bounties of her river waters. Your inaction today proves you only want to enact a drama to befool Punjabis and that you continue to play sycophant to the Gandhi family which is adamant on gifting Punjab's river waters to Haryana".-
