Haryana Speaker Gian Chand seeks security for MLAs receiving 'life threats'

Chandigarh, July 9: Haryana Assembly Speaker and local MLA Gian Chand Gupta on Saturday penned a letter to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and sought additional security for MLAs receiving death threats from gangsters.


According to sources, Gupta in his letter to CM said that many MLAs have been getting death threats from gangsters in India and those residing abroad. The Speaker asked Khattar to tighten the security of state legislatures as they, along with their family, are constantly in fear.

"...regarding life threats to the MLAs of Haryana from within and outside India. The Hon'ble members are feeling insecure and their family members are living in fear. It is, therefore necessary to take immediate steps about the security and safety of our MLAs.," the letter read.

Five MLAs, four from Congress and one from the BJP, have reportedly received death threats from gangsters, according to sources. Death threats have been made against MLAs Sadhaura Renu Bala, Sonepat Surendra Panwar, Sohna Sanjay Singh, Safidon Subhash Gangoli, and Ferozepur Jhirka Maman Khan.
