HC allows SAD to hold 'Pol Khol Rally' on Sept 16 in Faridkot
Punjab and Haryana High Court allows Shiromani Akali Dal to hold a Pol Khol Rally in Faridkot on September 16, here on Saturday morning. Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former cabinet minister of Punjab Daljit Singh Cheema had filed a petition at Punjab and Haryana High Court against the state government for not allowing SAD to hold a rally. Punjab government had on Friday morning rejected the request of SAD for holding a rally in the district. In a statement here, the Akali stalwart Parkash Singh Badal had said that it is “a brazen and cowardly abdication of constitutional responsibility by the state government whose primary duty is to ensure that no one is allowed to sabotage and disrupt peaceful expression of democratic aspirations of the people and to ensure and safeguard normal democratic activity in the state. The Government has virtually admitted today that the constitutional machinery in Punjab has broken down so much that it cannot even ensure a peaceful democratic rally by a mainstream political party.” -PTC News
